Fruits:
Every part of this installation was handcrafted, without machine. Each citrus is free-hand poked with a single 3RL needle and tattoo ink, without any stencil or marker. The citrus are strung from the frame with hand-braided nets made of fishing line. This installation was extremely labor-intensive and required high attention to detail. The process of hand-poking each fruit was to draw a parallel from painting to tattooing, which are very similar in nature but rarely viewed as such. The images on the citrus are recognizable figures from art history and the American traditional style of tattooing, at times combining the two in honor of their similarities as practices. The use of citrus as a medium speaks to the deterioration of flesh over time, while art depicted below the surface will remain.
